Character design: Shadow/ Mors
In this post, I will be showing my step by step processes that I took to create my characters for this project.
On the first layer, I sketched out the pose, of my character using a pencil tool, and drew the layout of the background.
I then added a new layer for some more details and the shadows for my character. To do this, I changed the layer setting from Normal to Multiply, and then lowered the opacity of my brush to around 38%.
Once again I created a new layer to add colour. At first I struggled finding the perfect colour palette that would display the both the steampunk and a Victorian era theme. I then did some research on different colour panels that would suit him perfectly.
I played around with the colours above by trying out different shades of the colours using the Paint bucket tool. After playing around with the colour palate, I found the perfect colours and then coloured my character.
In addition, I created another layer for the background which consisted of basic structures of building. I did not put much detail in the back ground because I wanted the focus to be on the character instead. I then used a paint bucket tool to fill in the space with a dark shade of blue to create a night background. I added the light in the on the building in the back to prevent the background from being too plain.
Lastly I used a Smudge tool to smoothen out the lines to make it look smoother and get rid of the ridged lines in it.
My second design was Mors, who is the protagonist in the story. Unfortunately, while drawing him, I had the layers mixed up, and accidently deleting some of which were my process. Briefly, I went through the same processes similar to the ones mentioned above. I did not focus on the background in this drawing as well, just to keep all the focus on the character and the details I added that relate to the steampunk theme.

In my next post I will talk about some of the background visual research I did when creating my characters
