Initial Research

In this post, I will be doing research on some artists, and animators, with the aim of using their work as an inspiration and applying them in my project for this term.

My first artist is Leonardo Da Vinci . Although he is mostly known for his great works of art such as the "Mona Lisa" and "The Last Super", Da Vinci was also a great inventor, which is the reason why I chose him and his designs which have the perfect steampunk themed designs due to how long ago they were made.

This is one of  Da Vinci's design for his flying machine. According to Palermo (2014), this design consisted a pair of large wings inspired by those of a bat, connected to a large wooden frame. In order to pilot it, a pilot would  lie facedown and move the wings up and down by turning a crank that moved a series of rods and pulleys.

I could adapt this by creating similar designs of the flying machine into my animation project as a form of transportation easily accessible by citizens.

This design of the Humanoid robot was based on the human anatomy , and was an invention that was way ahead of their time. Palermo (2014) mentions that the robot would be able to wave his arms, neck, and even the mouth. The humanoid robot was to be controlled externally with using cable and works with a hand crank and an internal gear for the machine.

This would easily be adapted in my animation by creating humanoid robots that are used as soldiers, police or even private security.

  1. A post like this could be improved by including sketches of your design ideas that makes a visual link between the work of Da Vinci and the work you are making.
