Major project : character design process.
This week, I will start creating and designing all of my six characters for my animation, and with this blogger post, I will be showing the processes and the methods I used through out and the software I used for these character designs is 'Procreate'.
Through the same methods that I have mentioned in the above drawings, and in this one as well, I created Nix. I wanted to add a distortion effect to his eye which represents some of the powers he holds. To do this, I changed my brush to an abstract brush; Stickman which I used around his eye, and used storm bay brush for the marks around his upper body to show the distortion effect.
For my final character design, I made Sentinal. Unfortunately, while drawing him, I forgot to use multiple layers to show work progression, with the only added layer being the back ground. During the process, I used the same methods that I mentioned the above drawings.
My first design is Ember, and after sketching out the pose I had in mind, I created a new layer to add colour, using the bucket feature to save time instead of using a brush to colour instead. I created another layer for the background and once again used the bucket feature and simply dragged the colour and dropped it on the canvas. I used the smudge tool, and changed the colour to a brighter purple to create brighter lines in order to give the background some texture. Lastly, I added the last layer to for shading and highlights to give the character some depth. To do this, I changed the layer from Normal to clipping mask through layer settings, and then reduced the opacity to 40%.
My second design is Val, and after sketching out the upper body, I created a new layer to add colour, using the bucket feature to save time instead of using a brush to colour instead. I created another layer for the background. I then lowered the opacity of the image that I had used for the background in order for it to blend it in and make the the character pop out. I then added the last layer to for shading and highlights to give the character some depth. I did the same thing as before, which was to change the layer from Normal to clipping mask through layer settings, and then reduced the opacity to 40%.
My next design was Jiro. Through the same processes yet again mentioned in the above pieces, the only thing I did different was the luminance I added to the eye to show that Jiro's artificial eyes that helps him gather intel on missions. I changed the colour to green to match the clothes and used a luminance the brush 'Flare' to create the effect I wanted.
